Boks to play in new global rugby competition

File

The Springboks will be playing in a new tournament involving both northern and southern hemisphere nations from 2026.

This was announced on Saturday by SANZAAR and the Six Nations organisations who reportedly said that the new competition seeks to “bring new life” to international rugby.

The competition will feature the four Rugby Championship teams and the Six Nations teams and will be played during the current July and November Test windows every two years.

It will also be outside of British & Irish Lions rugby tours as well as the World Cup.

Supersport.com reports that according to the joint statement, two spaces were also reserved for  invited unions to join the SANZAAR teams, “potentially Japan.”

The organisations said that a “transparent selection process” will be managed by SANZAAR to decide who gets the two invitations.
