No stopping Wayne Parnell

WAYNE PARNELL underlined his all-round ability as he struck a career-best 129 to give the Chevrolet Warriors a 54-run victory on the Duckworth-Lewis method over the bizhub Highveld Lions on Wednesday night.

Parnell had claimed a career-best haul of 6 for 51 in Saturday’s victory over the Chevrolet Knights, and this time he improved his highest List A score after opening the batting in place of Vuyisa Makhaphela.

The Proteas all-rounder shared a 155-run stand for the first wicket with Jon-Jon Smuts (73) after the Warriors had won the toss and elected to make first use of an excellent Senwes Park batting wicket, and also put on a century partnership for the second wicket with Colin Ingram (52).

With Ryan Bailey hammering 56 from 32 balls, even a late-innings collapse could not stop the Warriors from finishing on a formidable total of 342 for six in their 50 overs.

Parnell then knocked over Quinton de Kock cheaply while Rusty Theron trapped Stephen Cook lbw. That left the Lions in some distress and, although Rassie van der Dussen went to his half-century in style, the heavens opened shortly afterwards with the hosts on 118 for three after 25.2 overs.

With no further play possible, the Warriors were confirmed as winners with a bonus point since their run rate was 1.25 times that of the Lions.
