Twenty one year-old Sebastiaan Loubser of Port Elizabeth won the gold medal in the junior 120 kilogramme class at the SA national equipped powerlifting championship in Potchefstroom at the weekend.
The NMMU student now waits to hear if he's done enough to earn a ticket to the Commonwealth Games and Africa Champs later in the year.
Meanwhile: Multiple SA weightlifting Champion Mona Pretorius hosted the EP Championships this weekend at her ECX gym - with some 50 weightlifters from across the province taking part. Mona won best female lifter on the day.
The under 14 girls was won by Kirsty Piet and the under 14 boys by Keagan Paulus.
The Junior boys went to Thomas Faquhar who was also crowned champion of champion.
The senior boys over the age of 21 went to Jaco van der Vyfer who also qualified for the SA senior champs.
