The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Sports and Recreation Portfolio Chairperson, Cllr Nomamerika Soul, has cut the ribbon to mark the re-opening of the Newton Park Indoor Swimming Pool in Port Elizabeth.
Its been closed for more than a year and a half and has now finally been retiled at a cost of a million rand to the Metro.
Several children from the Learn to Swim Programme were among the first to enter the water - shortly after councillor Marion Harning, the Whip for sport, recreation, arts and culture in the Metro jumped into the pool.
Harning is herself a keen swimmer and says every child in the Metro needs to be taught the essential life skill of how to swim.
