CAPE TOWN, May 14 (ANA) – The newly-crowned HSBC Sevens World Series champions South Africa celebrated their glorious feat with a semifinal 26-5 win over traditional rivals New Zealand on day two at the Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris on Sunday.
The Blitzbokke lead 12-5 at halftime after scoring NZ 2-1 in the first-half try count. It was one-way traffic in the second half with two unanswered tries to wrap the match in emphatic fashion.
Earlier on Sunday, Scotland secured a berth in the 2017 Paris final with a hard-fought 19-17 win over ‘the old enemy’ England.
The result meant that South Africa have ended up being the HSBC Sevens World Series for the 2016/17 season after attaining an unassailable position on the HSBC Sevens World Series table.
The Blitzbokke last won the World Sevens Series title in 2009, and since have ended runners-up almost on every occasion in the past seven years. – African News Agency (ANA)
