Limpopo police say a man attempting to smuggle cocaine with an estimated street value of R18 million across the Beit Bridge border post has been arrested.
Police colonel Ronel Otto says the drugs were discovered during a routine search of traveller's luggage.
She says a police official found rollers with yarn inside the man's bag. The rollers were "exceptionally heavy" and a police sniffer dog was called in.
The yarn was removed from the rollers and plastic bags containing the cocaine were then removed.
Otto says the cocaine found weighed a total of 10.8 kilograms with an estimated value of R12 million.
She said more cocaine, weighing 5.2 kilograms and with an estimated street value of R6.4 million, was found in a false compartment in the bag.
The man, aged 36, will appear in the Musina Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of smuggling and possession of drugs.
