Madibaz beat UCT in Varsity Football

The third round of this year's exhilarating Varsity Football is off to a great start, with all the teams proving their ability by fighting for the title.

On Monday night,  the NMMU Madibaz secured a 2 - 1 victory over UCT in Port Elizabeth. NMMU led 1-0 at half-time.

Despite conceding a late goal, the Madibaz held on to claim maximum points, which lifted them off the bottom of the log.

In other matches,  UFS-Kovsies scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-1 victory over UWC in Bellville, while NWU came out on top against visitors UL at the North-West Stadium, where the hosts gave supporters a treat by edging their opponents 3-2 in a riveting affair.

UJ registered a valuable 4-0 victory over defending champions UP-Tuks in Pretoria to move to the top of the Varsity Football standings.

Meanwhile, defending MTN8 champions, Platinum Stars have been drawn to face Kaizer Chiefs in the semifinals of the top eight competition, while Orlando Pirates and Wits will square-off in the second semifinal, to be played over two legs.

The draw ensures the Soweto Derby is still on the cards, should Chiefs and Pirates advance through to the final.

Chiefs were the last team to book their spot in the last four, comfortably beating Mpumalanga Black Aces 4-0 on Sunday.
