Lady Bok Sevens prepare in PE

Eastern Cape Sports and Recreation MEC, Xoliswa Tom was in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday to lend her support to the Springbok Women’s Sevens  training squad.

They're busy with their final preparations for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow on the 29th and 30th of June.

Also lending his expertise was former Springbok Rassie Erasmus - who is SARU's General Manager for High Performance teams.

He says since their second placing in Dubai last year, they've been building to the World Cup. He says they're a lot fitter since being placed in a single residential programme this year and have a chance of doing very well in Moscow. He says a lot of attention has been placed on their defensive patterns after they lost all three first-day matches at the World Series event in Amsterdam last month.

Captain Mandisa Williams, who is a development officer with Border rugby, said the team is on its toes and believes it can go all the way in Moscow.

The Springbok Women Sevens face Ireland in their opening match on June 29, followed by clashes against China and defending champions Australia in the round-robin stages.
