The annual Karoo to Coast mountain bike challenge between Uniondale and Knysna has been postponed until September 2022 due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was to have taken place on Sunday 26 September this year with a sold out reduced number of 2500 riders.
In covid-free times, K2C as it is affectionately know, attracts around 4500 riders for the 96 km race which features breathtaking descents and challenging climbs through the mountain passes between Uniondale and Knysna.
However, the organisers say they've had to call off one of the biggest single-stage bike races in the country for the second straight year because of the pandemic.
The event owners, the Uniondale and Knysna Lions, say that ultimately the risk of infection due to factors outside of the race management control, were simply too high to compromise the safety of all involved.
Planning is already underway to host the even in a year's time.
