Joy for SA tennis at Australian Open

South African Davis Cup star, Raven Klaasen and his American partner Eric Butorac have advanced to the men's doubles finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Klaasen and Butorac, unseeded, won through to the finals on Thursday when they outplayed 8 seeds Daniel
Nestor (Canada) and Nenad Zimonjic (Serbia) 6-2 6-4.

This after South Africa's sport minister, Fikile Mbalula, earlier made a surprise phone call to Klaasen to wish him well for the
semi-finals match.

In the final on Saturday, Klaasen and Butorac will play the 14th seeded pair of Lukasz Kubot and Robert Lindstedt who took out the 13th seeded duo of Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut 6-4 7-6 6-3.

In the first of the ladies semi-finals - Li Na of China enjoyed an emphatic 6-2 6-4 win over Eugenie Bouchard of Canada.

In the second semi-final Dominika Cibulkova thumped an out of sorts Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1 6-2.
