Local Eastern Cape surfer, Emma Smith, is in Santa Catarina, Brazil, after receiving a late call-up for the ASP World Junior Surfing Championships.
The Billabong team rider earned her invitation when the governing body ASP announced that an extra spot had opened up for another female surfer from Africa.

The junior world champs runs from the 27th of October ot the 5th of November at Joaquina Beach, where the South Africans will take on their peers from the other six ASP regions - North and South America, Europe, Australasia, Hawaii and Japan.
