The Ironman Group has announced the cancellation of this year’s IRONMAN African Championship and the Isuzu Corporate Triathlon Challenge, both powered by Algoa FM, in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Both events had been rescheduled from March of this year to mid-November because of Covid-19 and the lockdown regulations that went along with fighting the pandemic.
The Ironman Group said in a statement released on Wednesday afternoon that when it moved the event from March to November it was confident that it would be able to deliver the event in 2020 as planned.
However, due to reasons related to the ongoing pandemic, and further conversations with the local authorities, it was decided that the IRONMAN African Championship cannot take place this year.
It will now return on the 14th of March 2021, with the ISUZU Corporate Triathlon Challenge taking place the day before on the 13th of March.
According to an email from the registration company, all athletes registered for both the full IRONMAN and the Corporate Triathlon will have their race registration automatically moved to the 2021 race date.
