The Castle Lager Rugby Championship 2020 will take place in Australia in November and December this year.
Governing body SANZAAR says this confirmation followed a detailed assessment of tournament hosting submissions from New Zealand Rugby and Rugby Australia.
The Championship will comprise a six -week, 12-match, “home and away” tournament involving Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
SANZAAR CEO Andy Marinos said its traditionally an international, cross-border series, but due to Covid-19, this was obviously not possible this year.
Marinos cautioned that South Africa’s participation remained to be confirmed as it was dependent on several factors outside the control of SANZAAR, in the main, the impact of the pandemic in the months’ ahead.
South Africa is also only expected to return to competitive play in October, thus leaving a relatively short time to prepare.
