Immediate backlash as Chippa court Luc Eymael

Luc Eymael: jacarandafm

The EFF in the Eastern Cape has rejected and condemned the proposed appointment of controversial Belgian Luc Eymael on a technical-advisor role by Chippa United.

The Nelson Mandela Bay-based Premier League outfit confirmed on Monday that it had amicably parted ways with coach Dan Malesela following Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Maritzburg United.

The Chili Boys added that assistant coach Siyabulela Gwambi would fill in as interim coach and that Eymael would form part of the Club in a Technical Advisor role – subject to clearance from SAFA.

That decision by the governing body of football in the country is still being awaited, but in the interim, the EFF has warned that it will ensure that Eymael never works in the Eastern Cape.

EFF Provincial Chairperson Yazini Tetyana says in a statement that Eymael is not welcome and that there is no room for racists in this country.

Chippa United boss Siviwe Mpengesi tried to appoint Eymael to the head coach position last year, but that move caused an outcry and was ultimately blocked by SAFA and the Eastern Cape Provincial government.

Eymael had earlier been fired by his Tanzanian Club Yanga Africans for calling it's supporters and fans 'illiterate monkeys and dogs who just bark'.

Meanwhile: SAFA's head off communications Dominic Chimhavi has confirmed that Eymael's quest, through his legal team, to clear his name and be granted a work permit in South Africa is currently before SAFA's ethics committee and world governing body FIFA's ethics committtee.

Chimhavi told AlgoaFM sport that until a ruling is received, SAFA will maintain its current stance that Eymael not be allowed to work in South Africa.

He said SAFA had appealed to both ethics committees to make a decision on the matter as soon as possible.
