Chippa United have announced that they will no longer continue with Luc Eymael’s appointment, either as Technical Advisor or as a coach, and that the Belgian will proceed to return to his native country.
The Nelson Mandela Bay-based Premier league outfit received an immediate backlash, first from the EFF in the Eastern Cape, and then from Buffalo City Mayor Xola Pakati, after it emerged earlier this week that they hoped to replace the sacked Dan Malesela with Eymael.
Chippa said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon that Eymael would be taking legal action to clear his name after he was fired by his Tanzanian Club last year for allegedly referring to the club’s supporters as dogs and monkeys.
Chippa United said it maintained its stance against racism of any form but wished to make it clear that its intended appointment of Eymael would not have happened had the allegations against him been validated in any form.
The club said it would now focus on pulling itself away from the lower reaches of the Premier League table and that further announcements regarding the coaching staff will follow soon.
