Humewood returns to Top 10 in SA's Top 100 courses

Humewood GC

Humewood Golf Club in Port Elizabeth has made it back into the Top 10 of South Africa’s Top 100 ranked golf courses for the first time in two decades.

Generally regarded as the only ‘True Links’ golf course on the African continent, Humewood placed No 9 in the Top 100 rankings announced this past week.

Humewood’s General Manager Brendon Timm says its an improvement of 4 places on the previous ranking, and a well-deserved return to the Top 10 for the first time in 20 years.

Humewood was No 3 in the very first Golf Digest rankings in 1998 and was No 10 in 2001.

Timm said exceptional conditioning and the overall customer experience had helped return Humewood to the Top 10. “The course has slowly returned to its more Links feel with its rolling hills and tightly mown surrounds.”

It also rated Tie-8 in South Africa in Top-Rated Greens, one of the new categories introduced on the digital platform. Wedgwood Golf Club, in the Greenbushes area west of Port Elizabeth, was rated number five in this highly sought after category.

St Francis Links at St Francis Bay, which is managed by South Africa’ leading golf club professional Jeff Clause, maintained its status as one of South Africa’s Top-10 courses, moving from No 6 to No 5 in the latest Top 100 rankings.

St Francis Links was also ranked as having the second-best greens in the country behind only the Montagu course at Fancourt.

“Excited to be No 5 in South Africa,” said Clause. “We are so proud of our team who deliver this quality day in and day out, with the support of our homeowners and members. We are in great company and very happy that Humewood moved into the Top 10, enhancing the Eastern Cape as a great golfing destination.”
