Hodge blasts Australia to win over Proteas

BRAD HODGE hit two sixes in the last over to lead Australia to a five-wicket victory over the Proteas in the second KFC T20 International match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Wednesday.

Australia had a stiff target of 15 runs to get off the final over from Wayne Parnell but Hodge maintained his side’s record of veteran players doing the job on this tour.

He finished with 21 off 8 deliveries to be named KFC Man of the Match.

The match was restricted to seven overs per side and the Proteas, after being sent into bat, reached 80/1 in their allotment thanks to a partnership of 74 off 31 balls between Quinton de Kock (41 off 20 balls, 2 fours and 4 sixes) and Faf du Plessis (27 off 13 balls, 2 fours and 2 sixes).

Australia got away to a rapid start when Aaron Finch and David Warner scored 21 runs off the first over bowled by Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Warner appeared to be putting Australia on the road to a comfortable victory until JP Duminy took two wickets for five runs in his single over including Warner who had made 40 (16 balls, 5 fours and 2 sixes) out of a total of 48/2.
