Waratahs’ South African born flanker Jacques Potgieter has been hit with a hefty 20-thousand Aussie dollar fine (that's about 200-thousand rand) – half of which has been suspended – for homophobic slurs he made during Sunday's Vodacom Super Rugby match between the Waratahs and the Brumbies - which the Waratahs won 28-13 in Sydney.
The Waratahs win over their arch-rivals was soured, however, by claims by Zimbabwean-born David Pocock that a member of the Waratahs had used the slur and called on rugby’s guardians to take appropriate action.
While Sanzar referred the matter to the Australian Rugby Union, former EP Kings flanker Potgieter owned up and copped the fine for his actions.
Potgieter expressed remorse over the incident, and apologised for any harm caused by his remarks.
