Heavy defeat for Chevrolet Warriors

A MIDDLE-ORDER collapse by the Chevrolet Warriors set the Chevrolet Knights on their way to a convincing 10-wicket Sunfoil Series victory at Chevrolet Park on Sunday.

After a 101-run partnership between David White and Ryan Bailey had hauled the Warriors towards a draw, the visitors lost five wickets for 23 runs and ended up setting the Knights just 71 for victory.

Openers Reeza Hendricks and Gihahn Cloete knocked the required runs off in just 19 overs to secure a 10-wicket win, which kept the Knights in the reckoning for Sunfoil Series honours.

The Warriors began the day in deep trouble on 25 for three, still trailing by 102, and lost Colin Ingram in the 12th over of the day, but a brave rally between White (89) and Bailey (39) kept their hopes of avoiding defeat alive as they took the game into the second session.

Even when Bailey was caught behind off the bowling of Quinton Friend, the Warriors only needed their last five wickets to stretch out for another 20-odd overs to close down the match.

Instead Werner Coetsee took three wickets in two overs and Malusi Siboto wrapped up the tail to close the Warriors innings on 197 before tea.

With more than a session to finish the job, the Knights had no problem in easing to victory with Hendricks and Cloete both scoring 31 not out.

The Knights’ 20.02 points was the highest tally of the weekend and lifted them to second on the table - less than six points behind the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras.
