David Gatebe's victory in the Two Oceans 56km ultra-marathon may have caught the majority of spectators by surprise, but he says it was the result of well thought out preparation.
Gatebe moved into the lead on Chapman's Peak and he says at 34-kilometres he knew he had the race in the bag.
The ladies race was won by Natalia Volgina - her second Two Oceans victory, and her first in 11 years.
