South Africa lock Flip van der Merwe will miss the Rugby Championship title decider against New Zealand because of a
one-week suspension for a dangerous tackle in the win over Australia.
Van der Merwe's suspension is up to and including Saturday, meaning he just misses the game against the defending champions on the same day at Ellis Park.
The second-rower was banned for his tackle on Wallabies winger Joe Tomane on Saturday.
Van der Merwe was shown a yellow card during the game but SANZAR ruled on Monday that the tackle deserved further punishment because it was high and he led with his forearm.
Juandre Kruger will likely replace him against the All Blacks, with uncapped lock Pieter-Steph du Toit in line for a place on the bench.
Meanwhile:
Jake White says he would be keen to coach Western Province or the Sharks.
However, the former Springbok coach has his eye on winning another World Cup title - having led the Boks to glory in 2007.
White was granted an early release from his four-year contract at the Brumbies last week.
He has since been linked to both South African coastal teams but says first prize would be to get back into international rugby.
