Darren Fichardt survived three bogeys over the closing holes to win the Africa Open by two shots from compatriot Jaco van Zyl and Gregory Bourdy of France at a wind-swept East London Golf Course yesterday.
The 37-year-old from Pretoria closed with a one-under-par 71 -- for a four-round total of 16-under 272.
Fichardt says it turned out key to open up a four shot lead over Van Zyl early in the final round.
Van Zyl shot a final round 73 and Bourdy a 70 as they tied for second place on 14-under
Best of the Eastern Cape professionals was PE Golf Club's Lyle Rowe who shot a final round 71 to finish on a 5-under par total in a tie for 22nd place
