The EP Kings under 19 rugby team have made history by winning the Absa Under 19 A-final at their first attempt with a gutsy 25-23 win over the Blue Bulls at Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg.
Jeremy Ward's EP team were deserved champions in an under 19 season in which they won 12 out of 13 matches.
As it turns out, their only loss was to the self-same Bulls in the group stages.
The EP lads were presented with a glittering trophy and each received a gold medal. The team also takes home 200-thousand rand in prize money.
The EP youngsters made all the play in the first half and lead 13-6 at the break.
The Blue Bulls hit back immediately with two quick tries but Eastern Province stuck to their guns to grind out a famous victory.
Speaking post match, , EP flanker and man of the match Hayden Tharatt said it was a day he'd always remember.
His captain Jeremy Ward paid tribute to his team mates for hanging tough and never giving up.
