Eastern Province's captain, Anthony Dakin, became the first player in the history of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week to score a century in a T20 match. He smashed an unbeaten 107 runs from 74 deliveries against Northern Cape at the main oval of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to secure his place in the history of the tournament.
EP won the match by 93 runs, scoring 187 for 3 in their 20 overs and bowling Northern Cape out in reply for 94.
Dakin struck ten fours and three sixes in this milestone innings. The previous best innings by a player in a T20 match in the tournament was by Gauteng's Bradley Dial (86) against North West during the 2012 edition in Potchefstroom.
T20s were introduced to the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week for the first time in Benoni in 2009, but no matches in this format were possible due to rain on the third day of the tournament that year.
Dakin’s team mate Lutho Sipamla also experienced an exceptional day. He picked up a hat-trick of wickets on his way to gathering a total of five for just four runs. His victims included Roché Rossouw (16), Motheo Manake's (0), André Share (0), Marko de Kock (4) and Craig Pinetown (11).
