Encouraging performances by SWD cricketers


The CSA Provincial Three Day competition was concluded on the past weekend with Western Province (167.30 bonus points) clinching the title ahead of North West (109.18). SWD, who had a rather disappointing season finished 11th out of 14 teams with four outright victories at 109.46 points mainly due to inconsistent first innings batting performances.

The team however recorded much better performances in the One Day and Twenty20 competition where they fall one victory short in winning the One Day competition and qualifying for the Twenty20 competition respectively.

Gurshwin Rabie, again excelled in the three day competition where he bagged jointly the most wickets in the CSA Provincial Three Day competition (56) wickets at an average of 20.22. It is the second time in his career that he bagged more than 50 FC wickets in season.

The captain, Ross McMillan, had a good all-round performance and was the top-batsman in the Twenty20 - 324 runs at an average of 108 (3 fifties). He was also the most economical bowler in the Three Day competition where he claimed 22 wickets at an average of 2.22 runs per over. McMillan was also the leading SWD batsman (246 runs at an average of 41) and bowler (10 wickets at an average of 26.90) in the One Day competition.

The wicketkeeper, Brendon Louw, was the wicket keeper with the most dismissals (45) in the Three Day competition.

KwaZulu Natal Inland and the Gauteng Strikers will play in the Twenty20 final on Saturday.
