The six member South African surfing team, which includes two Eastern Cape surfers, leaves on Monday for the 2013 ISA World Surfing Games in Santa Catalina, Panama.
Included in the team is St Francis Bay surfer Dale Staples and Port Elizabeth’s Faye Zoetmulder who were recently awarded their national colours at a presentation function in Jeffreys Bay with World Masters surfing champion Greg Emslie, of East London, as the guest of honour.
The team will be managed by Etienne Venter of Jeffreys Bay and also includes Shaun Joubert (Mossel Bay), Mike February (Kommetjie), Davey Brand (Kommetjie) and Tanika Hoffman (Clifton).
South Africa are confident of a good performance at the Games, having placed 7th in 2011 as they get set to compete against more than 32 countries from five continents.
This Biennial event will crown the ISA World Team Champions as well as the World Men’s and Women’s Championship Titles.
