The Serbian top seed and world number one beat Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 but said the surface was way to slippery and seriously questioned whether it had a future.
Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych advanced over South African Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-3.
