A Michael Essien own goal and goals from Jordan Henderson, Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey earned Liverpool a small measure of revenge over Chelsea for their defeat in Saturday's FA Cup final.
The result leaves Chelsea still sixth, and they must now beat Bayern Munich on May 19 in the final of the Champions League to qualify for next season's competition.
With one game remaining, Liverpool are eighth, one point behind Merseyside rivals Everton.
