Djokovic advances to second round in US Open


World number one Novak Djokovic advanced to the second round of the US Open on Tuesday with a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis.

Djokovic needed only 82 minutes to put himself into a last-64 match up against Germany's Benjamin Becker, who eliminated Czech Lukas Rosol in four sets.

In a match held over from Monday because of rain, Roger Federer made a solid start to his bid for a sixth US Open title by defeating Slovenia's Grega Zemlja 6-3, 6-2, 7-5

Eleventh-seeded Samantha Stosur, the 2011 champion, was sent crashing out by American 17-year-old qualifier Victoria Duval.

The American ranked at 296, clinched a famous 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win to register her first victory at a Grand Slam.

Duval goes on to meet Slovak veteran Daniela Hantuchova for a place in the last 32.

Second seed Victoria Azarenka advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 demolition of Germany's Dinah Pfizenmaier.
