Nelson Mandela Bay is set to host the 16th annual Standard Bank IRONMAN African Championship on Sunday the 29th of March next year.
The date-reveal follows hot on the heels of the announcement at the weekend that Ironman South Africa had concluded a memorandum of intent with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality which will see the continuation of the IRONMAN African Championship in Port Elizabeth for a further three years.
IRONMAN South Africa MD Keith Bowler said both parties wanted the best outcome for the athletes and people of Nelson Mandela Bay.
He added that general registrations for next year's race will open on Monday, 24 June 2019.
Race Director Paul Wolff said they're happy to be keeping the continental IRONMAN championship in Nelson Mandela Bay. "The local community does an excellent job of hosting our athletes, from the volunteers to family and friends cheering on the side of the road. The city takes ownership and the atmosphere is unbelievable."
