South Africa’s Dale Steyn on Wednesday became the leading wicket-taker with 422 strikes for his country in Test cricket, with the scalp of Fakhar Zaman on day one of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan in Centurion.
The 35-year old entered the match at SuperSport Park on the verge of becoming the most successful South African Test bowler in his 89th Test.
Steyn needed one wicket to go past Shaun Pollock’s record of 421 Test scalps, a record that has stood since 2008.
He made his Test debut against England in December 2004 at the age of 21 in Port Elizabeth.
