Another Currie Cup blow for EP Kings

The SA Rugby Union has announced that the planned Special General Council meeting scheduled for Cape Town on Friday has been postponed until the 13th of February.
The meeting was called to discuss for the third time a proposal relating to the restructuring of the Absa Currie Cup into an eight-team Premier Division and six-team First Division.
SARU says soundings taken by its Executive Council in advance of the meeting clearly indicated that the latest proposal was unlikely to reach the required two-thirds majority.
In those circumstances the Games and Policies Committee has been asked to reconsider the proposal for re-submission to the Council next month.
One of the proposals on the table is that Eastern Province become part of the Premier Division as it prepares for its re-entry into Super Rugby in 2016.

Southern Kings caretaker coach Robbi Kempson feels its a no-brainer not to elevate the Kings. "Its a rugby decision and hopefully the Executive members who are voting on that realise that politics is secondary at this juncture. It doesn't assist the Lions at all because they are trying to get a sponsor at the moment and it also doesn't assist us in trying to build ahead of our re-entry into Super Rugby in 2016. So if they make a rugby decision we'll be in that Premier Division of the Currie Cup. If they don't unfortunately the status quo will remain."

Meanwhile: Kempson has named a relatively unchanged line-up for Saturday's second pre-season friendly against the Lions at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Charl du Plessis comes in for Peter Stemmet at tight head prop and Shane Gates returns at inside centre for Dwayne Jenner.
Jenner is bracketed at outside centre alongside Ronnie Cooke.
Cooke has been given until Thursday to prove his fitness after taking a heavy knock to the hip against the Cheetahs at the weekend.
Kempson said the Kings pack needed to make a big step-up following Saturday's 36-21 loss to the Cheetahs.
Kick off is at 5pm with the curtain-raiser at 2-30 between Gap Despatch and a Vodacom Cup squad.
