CSA salutes Proteas after heroics in Sri Lanka

Cricket South Africa has congratulated the Proteas on achieving their dual objective of winning the Test series in Sri Lanka and regaining the No. 1 ICC World Test ranking.

CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat says this is the first South African squad to truimph in both the ODI and Test Series in Sri Lanka and the last time this was achieved on the sub-continent was in Pakistan back in 2007.

Chasing a target of 369 on Monday's final day of the second test in Colombo, South Africa were in big trouble at 148-8 but tailenders Vernon Philander (27 not out) and Imran Tahir (four not out) hung on in the final nine overs to finish on 159-8 to draw the match and win the series 1-nil.

The Proteas took the preceding ODI series 2-1

South Africa's next assignment is a one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Harare from the 9th of August, followed by an ODI triangular against Zim and Australia.
