Coach of the year award for Banyana Banyana mentor

CAF Awards

South African senior national women’s team coach Desiree Ellis’ star continues to soar.

She was named as Africa’s Coach of the Year in the women’s football category during the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Morocco on Thursday night.

It was a third CAF Coach of the Year Award for Elis.

She's been at the top of her game for a long time now and will be quietly plotting her next move in Saturday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final between Banyana Banyana and hosts Morocco in Rabat to cap yet another memorable year.

There was more South African success at the gathering of Africa’s top football personalities and football stars as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were named Africa’s Women’s Club of the Year after winning their domestic league and the inaugural Champions League in Egypt in 2021.

CAF announced that the women’s National Team of the Year will be named after Saturday’s WAFCON final Banyana Banyana and Morocco.

Sadio Mane of Senegal and Bayern Munich (formerly Liverpool) was named men's player of the year and Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria and FC Barcelona was named Africa's women's footballer of the year.
