Chris Dry made it two tries a minute later and South Africa’s lead was 12-0 after 3 and a half minutes. Cecil Afrika scores – huge roar!!!! from the home crowd and with two minutes to go in the first half, South Africa’s lead was 17-0.
Samoa score in the corner through Reupana Levasa just before the break and the Blitzbokke go to half time leading 17-7. The one time Samoa get the ball they score – crowd hushed in anticipation of the second half as South Africa seek revenge over Samoa for their 3-point loss in Dubai.
This is PE born SA captain Frankie Horn’s 44th consecutive International Sevens tournament – equalling the mark held by Fabien Juries.
PE hero Cecil Africa’s right knee heavily strapped but he’s moving beautifully! Cecil helps set up South Africa’s 4th try just after the break by Chris Dry (his second of the game) and Cecil converts as the Blitzbokke extend their lead to 24-7 with 4 minutes to play. Chris Dry makes it a hattrick with a minute to play and South Africa are home-free. A fantastic start for South Africa in front of their home fans as they win 29-7 and outplay Samoa by 5 tries to one. Go Blitzbokke! Next game for SA is against France at 16h40. They play the penultimate match of the day against Australia at 19h36 and day one concludes with Samoa vs France at 19h58
