Chippa lose as Giants win big

There were mixed fortunes for two of Nelson Mandela Bay’s professional sporting franchises on Friday

Visitors AmaZulu edged Chippa United  1-0 in the Absa Premiership at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday night.

The defeat means that Chippa are joined on 10 points on the league table by AmaZulu. Both clubs are just one point above bottom-of-the-log sides Maritzburg United and Black Leopards.

There was more to smile about at St Georges Park earlier in the day when the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants registered a bonus point 48-run win over the Paarl Rocks in the Mzansi Super League T20.

Sisanda Magala, Jon-Jon Smuts and Man of the Match Heino Kuhn starred as the Giants closed to within a point of the log-leading Cape Town Blitz at the top of the table.

The hosts won by 48 runs after bowling out the visitors for 120 in 19.3 overs as they tried to hunt down a victory target of 169.

Kuhn led the way for the NMB Giants with his fluent innings of 54 (36 balls, five fours, two sixes), before Magala and Smuts snared three wickets each to destroy the visitors and hand the home side the full quota of five points.
