Chevrolet Warriors head coach Piet Botha has announced that he is stepping down with immediate effect after ten long years with the Eastern Cape professional franchise.
He was a long-time assistant to Russel Domingo and head coach the past four seasons. This year has been one of the team's most disappointing in terms of results.
Botha said he'll stay on as a technical advisor to his assistant Malibongwe Maketa - who will take over the reigns on an interim basis for the rest of the 2014/15 season.
Botha said his decision to step down was prompted by interim CEO Saleem Mukuddem advising him that he'd have to re-apply for the position of head coach when his contract expires at the end of April 2015. He felt it was therefore the right time to vacate the hot seat for someone who can take the Warriors in a new direction.
