The Cheetahs are looking at signing former Southern Kings and SA under-20 winger Sergeal Petersen for next year’s competition after his contract ends at the end of this season.
While Petersen will stay with the Kings for the Absa Currie Cup for 2014 and 2015, he has been approached by the Cheetahs and would give coach Naka Drotske a lot more options alongside his two Springboks, Willie le Roux and Cornal Hendricks, in the backline.
EP Rugby CEO Charl Crouse has stressed that negotiations with the Cheetahs around Petersen are still at a very early stage and that terms still need to be finalised.
EPRU President Cheeky Watson says the Union certainly supports any efforts by its players to get Super Rugby game time elsewhere ahead of the Southern Kings' return to the competition in 2016.
