World Cup favourites Brazil will be expected to defeat Mexico in the second round of Group A matches in Fortaleza at 9pm tonight SA time but their Latin neighbours have no reason to feel overawed.
The Mexicans have won big matches against Brazil before, beating them 4-3 in the final of the Confederations Cup in 1999 and more recently in the Olympic final in London.
Brazil are clearly in form, however, coming off an impressive 3-1 win over Croatia in the tournament opener last week.
Mexico will also be encouraged by a rain-sodden 1-0 win over Cameroon last Friday.
In today's other matches, Belgium are expected to be too strong for Algeria in their Group H opener at 6pm our time.
Russia are also favoured to beat South Korea in the other group H encounter - kick off is at midnight SA Time.
In yesterday's matches, Germany routed Portugal 4-0 with Thomas Muelller scoring a hattrick.
Nigeria and Iran drew nil-all and the United states edged Ghana 2-1.
