Bok win "in the minds" of the players - Meyer

Springbok coach Heynecke Meyer says the Boks convincing win over Australia was won first in the minds of the players.

The Boks broke their hoodoo at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday with a 38 -12 win over the Wallabies, their first victory in Brisbane.

The Springboks came away with a four try bonus as well to lead the Rugby Championship log.

Speaking at the post match interview, Meyer praised the Boks defence, adding that they were also able to win the game without the ball.

"As a coach I truly believed that the first 20 minutes are going to be very important because I knew if they were to score one or two tries early on it was going to be difficult to play catch-up away from home. So, I thought the defence was awesome."

"We spoke about it the whole week that we have to be able to win the game without the ball. Our scrums were great, our set pieces, I truly believe we won the game firstly in the minds and secondly without the ball."

"We're thankful for the win and will get ready for the next one (All Blacks) because that is gonna be a really, really great challenge," Meyer said.

"I really, really believe in this team."

Sprinbok captain Jean de Villiers said praised his forwards for laying down a solid platform for the backs.

"Our scrummaging is immense at the moment and the new laws are definitely suiting us. And from a defensive point of view a lot has been said about our forwards lacking pace but what they bring to the party is just fantastic," De Villiers said.
