Manchester United confounded grim pre-game predictions by drawing 1-1 with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The draw gave the German side a slight advantage in terms of the away goal rule ahead of the second leg in Munich next week.
In the night's other quarterfinal first leg tie, Barcelona salvaged a 1-1 draw at home to Atletico Madrid who now also have the advantage of an away goal ahead of next week's return leg.
The other two quarter-final first leg matches take place on Wednesday night - when Chelsea come up against Paris Saint Germain in Paris, and Real Madrid entertain Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu.
