More than 60 ultra-distance marathoners from across the country will gather at the Halyards Hotel in Port Alfred at five o'clock this Friday afternoon for the start of the annual Washie 100 miler.
The 160-kilometre Ultra finishes at the Buffs Club in East London with the first runners expected at around 7 o'clock on Saturday morning.
Making his debut this year is 42 year-old Durban software developer Mbuso Ngcongo who'll be tackling the Washie barefoot.
He says he's not particularly worried about any given road surface on his bare feet and says that wearing running shoes feels like he's actually suffocating his feet.
The defending men's champion, Johan v d Merwe will be back - he is looking at his 4th win overall and hopes to break 13 hours.
There are 3 local ladies, Christine Roux from Oxford Striders, Gail Langley from Buffs Road Runners and Stephanie Kretzmann, from Born 2 Run who are all potential winners.
Two runners will be doing their 25th Washie - East London's Butch Duffey from Buffs Road Runners and Eric Wright from Rand Road Warriors
