Bafana pack bags for home

Two second-half goals saw Ghana come from behind to beat South Africa 2-1 in their final 2015 African Cup of Nations Group C match in Mongomo on Tuesday night to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.

The result, combined with Algeria’s 2-0 win over Senegal in the other Group C game, sees Ghana finish top of the standings on six points.

Algeria are second, also on six points, while Senegal finish third with four points and South Africa last with one point.

Sport and Recreation minister, Fikile Mbalula said after the dissapointing result that Bafana's departure from the Africa Cup of Nations should not be an opportunity for sadness, but one of reflection.

He said the tournament was a learning experience for the team, adding that winning Afcon was never an end goal for South Africa.

Meanwhile, Chelsea reached the League Cup final after Branislav Ivanovic's towering extra-time header secured a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in a rip-roaring semifinal second leg at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The Serbian defender powered a header past the Liverpool keeper, four minutes into the extra period, to secure a 2-1 aggregate win for the four-times winners - days after their humiliating FA Cup exit to third-tier Bradford City.

Chelsea will face either Tottenham Hotspur or Sheffield United, who play the second leg of their last-four clash on Wednesday night, with Spurs leading 1-0 from the first leg.

The final will be played at Wembley on the first of March.
