ASA to appeal IAAF ruling on Semenya

Athletics South Africa has announced that it will be appealing the decision by the Court of Arbitration in Sport related to the star athlete, Caster Semenya.

The Department of Sport and Recreation said today that the decision to appeal the ruling followed representations made to Sports Minister Tokozile Xasa by a high-level team she appointed to study the CAS judgment.

The Court of Arbitration in Court had turned down an appeal by Semenya against a ruling requiring her to lower her testosterone levels if she wants to compete in middle-distance running, a decision the athlete has roundly rejected.

Vuyo Mhaga, the spokesperson for the Department of Sport and Recreation, says after the CAS,  ruling Minister Xasa committed to consulting with the IAAF on the issue.
