Action packed cycling at Knysna Oyster Festival

Participants of the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour took to the mountains and streets of Knysna on 29 and 30 June. Cycling conditions were optimal as the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival enjoyed fantastic weather on both days, and the atmosphere at the main festival grounds on Waterfront Drive – the start and finish of both races – was one of excitement and fun.

Kevin Evans won the men’s 80km mountain bike race on Saturday 29 June with a time of 02:57, with James Reid coming in a close second and Johan Rabie taking the third spot on the podium.

The ladies’ 80 km mountain bike race was dominated by Candice Neethling who took first place in 03:24:04, followed by Mariske Strauss and Ischen Stopforth in second and third place respectively.

The men’s division 80km road race was won by Nolan Hoffman on Sunday 30 June with a time of only 01:54:58. Christoff van Heerden took second position and Tyler Day secured the third place.

Andriette Schoeman won the ladies’ 80km road race in 01:56:22, with Mariske Strauss coming in second and Heidi Dalton closing the ranks of the ladies’ top three road racers.

The main festival grounds buzzed with tired but happy riders on both days as everyone enjoyed the routes, the scenery and the cycle. The main venue is open to the public daily, with live music, good food and fun events.
