Warm hearts fire up growing Algoa FM Winter Woolly Week Campaign

Eastern Cape and Garden Route listeners have been so generous and warm hearted in supporting the annual Algoa FM Winter Woolly Week campaign that it is going online as well.

"Listeners have told us that they want to be able to donate money to enable the campaign to meet specific needs - be it for blankets, jackets or jerseys," says Algoa FM Marketing Manager Toinette Koumpan.

"Throughout the month of June, we're challenging all listeners, corporates, businesses and schools to donate funds online and help us reach our goal in addition to hundreds of winter woollies," she says.

The funds will be donated to Community Chest, which in turn will disburse them to needy organisations across the Eastern Cape.
"This year we are so thrilled when the Port Elizabeth International Airport Company (ACSA) also came on board as one of our main sponsors making a donation of R100 000 to the project", says Public Relations Officer for Community Chest, Colette Theron.

"I think the increased involvement and the numerous companies who have shown their interest in getting involved in this year's Algoa FM Winter Woolly Week project shows the growth of the initiative in our broadcast area", says Koumpan.
Supporters of Community Chest and Winter Woolly Week can still expect to see their favourite presenter collecting winter woollies in peak time traffic on the cold winter morning of Friday, 7 June from 06h30-08h00.

In Port Elizabeth KayCee Rossouw and Drew Serfontein will be at Moffet-on-Main, Wayne Hart and Lauren Mungur will be at Stanford Road and Aubrey Street whilst Graham Roberts, Vinny Nogemane and Tové Kane will be at the Five Ways intersection on Cape Road.

In East London Gordon Graham will be at the intersection of Devereux Avenue and Chamberlain Street in East London. An Algoa FM team will also be at the corner of Laing Street and Meade Street at George South Primary.

All supporters of the Algoa FM Winter Woolly Week who miss the presenters at these intersections can still make their donation of warm clothes and blankets at their nearest Caltex garage in Port Elizabeth, East London, Knysna, George and Mossel Bay. Alternative drop-off points are available on the website and to donate online supporters can visit www.algoafm.co.za.

"We are so grateful to all the sponsors for their team effort, spirit and passion for the project. All our sponsors including Algoa FM, Caltex, ACSA, GMSA and Nampak have made even bigger commitments this year. We really hope the donation line will enable us to help even more people", says Theron.

Meanwhile The Airports Company South Africa has come on board this year to join Caltex, GMSA and Nampak as corporate sponsors of the annual initiative.

Community Chest CEO, Beulah Lumkwana, has appealed to the public and corporates to open their closets and wallets and donate to this worthy cause.

"There are children that would go to school on an empty stomach and at the end of the day we will query why their progress reports are so poor...it is because they are hungry and cold! We want to enhance our communities and bring back the dignity and bring them hope with this project" she said.
