The Eastern Cape Department of Health in partnership with Algoa FM will be providing free health screenings in three rural towns as part of the build-up to the annual Big Walk.
A team of nurses and doctors will provide much-needed screening services such as pap smears for women and prostate cancer screening for men.
The clinics will be held:
Peddie: Town Hall on October 11, 2019
Graaff-Reinet: Alex Laing Hall on October 15, 2019
Maclear: The Sonwabile Community Centre on October 18, 2019.
The screenings will be held between 09h00 and 15h00.
During the free screenings, the doctors and nurses will also educate residents about the need for early detection of cancer, because it is then much easier to treat.
Where problems are identified during the screening patients will be referred to the nearest health facilities.
The annual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer presented by the Eastern Cape Department of Health takes place on Saturday, October27, from The Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth.
