The Discovery Algoa FM Big Walk kick-started today at 08h00 with a 4km walk at the NMMU Cricket Fields in 2nd Avenue Summerstrand. “For the past 3 years our goal has been to reach a total of 7500 participants in the walk and we are proud to say that this year we achieved this result with just over 8000 people entering in comparison to 6000 entries in 2012”, says Managing Director of Algoa FM.
“The PE community continue to astonish us every year. For the past 3 years that we have partnered on this walk, it has rained, almost flooded in PE, but every year people pitch to walk in memory or in support of people affected by cancer. It is an awe-inspiring sight and Discovery is proud to partner with an event that is clearly very close to the hearts of the Port Elizabeth community, an event that not only supports the community in need but also promotes healthy living”, says Head of Sponsorships, Jody Foster.
“Today was an especially difficult day for the Algoa FM Management, staff and presenters with the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Viv Bozack on Tuesday, 22 October. We walked in memory and in celebration of him, because that is what he would have wanted us to do; to celebrate life and I think this is what this walk is all about, celebrating life”, says Marketing Manager of Algoa FM, Toinette Koumpan.
All funds raised with today’s event will benefit the PE branch of CHOC (Children's Haemotology Oncology Clinics).
