Ready for the Discovery Algoa FM Big Walk!

On Saturday, 26 October thousands of people will descend on the NMMU Cricket Fields in 2nd Avenue, Summerstrand for a 4km and 8km walk in support of CHOC (Children’s Haemotology Oncology Clinics), beneficiary to this year’s walk.
“We think that participants will enjoy the route as it is similar to last year’s one. Participants will start the route at 2nd Avenue’s gate entrance to NMMU Cricket Fields, pass The Boardwalk, walk all the way along Marine Drive to 8th Avenue, where the route will continue along the beach, lead back into 2nd Avenue and conclude on the cricket grounds”, says Event Organiser of Magnetic Storm, Glenn Van Eck.
“We are very happy with the response and increase in participation thus far in comparison to previous years and are excited to see what the final outcome will be on Saturday”, says Marketing Manager of Algoa FM, Toinette Koumpan.
“We encourage everyone to register early and join in the fun and theme of the day, which is ultimately to walk in memory and in support of people affected by cancer. For this reason CHOC will have a special stall where we will colour spray hair pink and gold representative of the cause for a small donation of R10”, says the PE Branch Manager for CHOC, Charmaine Vosloo.

“Everyone who registers will have the opportunity to check their health status with free wellness screenings offered throughout registration from 13h00-19h00 on both registration days. The screenings will also ensure that all walkers are healthy and fit enough to participate in the event. Participants who complete the wellness screenings will be informed of their health status almost immediately. The wellness screenings include evaluations of your blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and Body Mass Index. Discovery Vitality members will earn points for completing the screenings with bonus points rewarded for results that are in a healthy range”, says Head of Sponsorships for Discovery, Jody Foster.
