One South Africa Movement leader Mmusi Maimane has announced that the movement will participate in the upcoming local government elections.
Maimane, who started a movement called "One South Africa (OSA)" says they are not a political party but a movement, to give power back to the people.
Maimane, the former leader of the official opposition party the Democratic Alliance, says the party-political system is fundamentally broken.
Adding another party, to the ever-growing list is not a viable solution.
The movement will take part in the local elections through independent candidates, chosen by their communities.
They can stand for election as ward councillors and also in the Local Government elections.
Maimane says their movement is the alternative to political parties.
OSA will not be on the ballot paper, but they will support, train, equip and campaign for OSA endorsed independents, in Wards across the country.
Independent candidates who wish to serve through this movement can submit their info to:
wards@osa.org.za before 1 March 2021.
There is no date yet as to when the 2021 Local Elections will take place.
This year will mark the 6th local government election since the end of apartheid.
